We caught up with the beautiful and talented Canadian Jazz Vocalist and Song Writer, Monica Chapman

Monica is always a joy to talk to. She is so full of life and happy because she is living her dream. Monica was trained as a classical vocalist and pianist. She credits her husband with convincing her that her voice woud lend itself well to Jazz. We here are glad he did. Monica is current working on her full CD. It’s all being kept under warps right now but Monica did tell us that she going to be doing standards from Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Billie Hoilday. We can’t wait to hear it. David White

You’ve heard the music now meet the Man behind it. Join us as we welcome David White to the WDGP family.

Trombonist, Composer, Arranger David White is a highly versatile musician who is building a strong reputation on the New York jazz scene. In addition to leading his own band, the David White Jazz Orchestra, he has had the honor of sharing the stage with Jon Faddis, Slide Hampton, James Weidman, Frank Lowe, Todd Coolman, Valery Ponomarev, Charli Persip, Delfeayo Marsalis, Junior Mance and Kenny Burrell among others. In a review of one of his recent performances, Jazz Inside NY Magazine praised David’s work saying:
“I Have a Bad Feeling About This”, written by trombonist Dave White, was propelled by a snappy bass line and some first class solo work by the composer. White put his big sound, solid technique and solid intonation to good use on all of the material throughout the performance.”

David was a wonderful guest as we chatted he gave insights into his music, the process he uses to develop his sounds, his inspirations and his recording style (one day to record and entire CD – WOW). He also speaks candidly about the current state of Record labels and what’s good about it. Of course we listen to some of his beautiful CD Flashpoint. Take a listen and then go buy his work. Visit David’s website and stay up to date with appearances and more.

Anthony Marcus

On Saturday June 25th, we had the pleasure of speaking with Mr Anthony Marcus.

Anthony Marcus was influenced by music at an early age. Music came naturally to Anthony, upon auditioning for the elementary school band, the instructor told him that he had a “natural ear” and could play any instrument he wanted to. It was the age of 9 when Anthony decided he wanted to play guitar. Many influences are responsible for the molding and shaping of Anthony Marcus as an artist.
As well as music within the secular world, Anthony was also influenced by gospel music as well. “I feel that my talent in music is a God given talent.” This brings us to where we are today with this up and coming artist. “Flow” (March 2010) will finally place Anthony in his element as far as music genres go.

Anthony spoke very candidly, sharing great advise about the music business and giving instruction on what steps to take to protect your intellectual property.  He talked about his relationship with God and  also share that he once had a problem that God delivered him from.  Take a listen to the interview and hear some of music. Then visit one of his websites and become a fan. While your there purchase the music and look for more from Anthony Marcus.

Visit Anthony on Facebook, Reverbnation, and MySpace. Follow him on Twitter, Soundclick , Soundcloud and keep up at Finylcut.

Bruce Lloyd Kates

April 17, 2011

Last night we were visited by  the talented but humble Mr Kates.

He is a composer with much music to his credit but he maintains himself as a piano tuner. He shared with us history. It seems his father was also a musician and in addition,  had a music store,  thus Bruce was introduced to music very early on and fell in love with the old style. He share his story of “possibly” finishing a Gershwin song, writing a song for LA,  a theme for a perfume and retooling the American Anthem. Check out the interview and the go listen more of his music, include the Anthem at his website.

Here is a recent article on Bruce from the LA Times.

How: Reservations – 416.913.8197 — Cover – $12

Why: because we can all make a difference!

Singer/songwriter Donna Greenberg met Cynthia Brown, a lawyer with a great passion for the arts, at a salsa class five years ago. The two became fast friends. Last summer, Cynthia was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer, and is presently undergoing chemotherapy treatments at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

On Tuesday May 3rd, at 8 p.m., the songstress will be taking to The Trane Studio stage performing a musical evening in support of Princess Margaret Hospital, in honour of her dear friend, Cynthia. One dollar from each ticket and CD sold will benefit the Lymphoma Research Fund at Princess Margaret Hospital. To encourage additional funds, donation forms will be available at the event.

Donna will be joined in performance by pianist Jordan Klapman and guitarist Tony Quarrington for a concert chockfull of Donna’s original tunes and much-loved jazz standards. A special moment in the evening will be the dedication of Donna’s own song, “You’re My Summer Peach” to Cynthia. Donna feels this cheery song, off her critically acclaimed second album, Mav’rik, truly reflects Cynthia’s’ personality.

“I love and admire Cynthia’s fighting spirit in the face of this great adversity,” states Donna. “She’s a grand optimist. Cynthia bought a new bright red car in the midst of chemotherapy and is making plans to take friends on fun trips, once this disease is behind her. Cynthia is a great inspiration to me!

“I am deeply grateful for the kindness, dedication and knowledge of the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital, and the support they provide not only to the patients, but to their family and friends. I am so grateful to use my voice to honour and raise money for this remarkable institution.”
