Tate Simms
Apr 8, 2012 Bands, Stars with a Pen, Today's Stars
On April 7 Tate Simms Joined Diana Broomfield as her guest on Conversations, unfortunately, the interview did not record, so if you missed this time, you missed it, however, here are some highlights:
Tate Simms is a world class musician, singer, songwriter, guitarist, bassist, and producer and it was an honor have him on the show. Orginally from the States, Simms makes his base in Germany but performs all over.
Diana surprised Tate by playing an earlier song of his titled Groove Patrol. We loved it but we’re not so sure Tate did, but he was a good sport about it.
Tate began playing the guitar at age 8. His Aunt took him to lessons at the Hampton Conservatory in Englewood New Jersey where he had the good fortune to get some pointers from Dizzy Gillespe. He has been in several bands and has performed with Christina Aguillera, Mary Wilson OF THE LEGENDARY SUPREMES, Globus, the New Ray Charles Orchestra, George Benson, Sheryl Crow, Curtis Blow, AND Orin Juice Jones. Tate has also opened for great acts like Tavares, Donna Summer, and the Spinners, to name a few. He was also the musical director for Latoya Jackson.
Tate shared that he writes a new song everyday. He says he likes to keep fans on a roller coaster ride, never knowing what to expect. Tate doesn’t want to be put into a box , (which is another reason he should be a part of the WDGP family of Independent Artists) we definitely agree. Simms is so talented and, of course, he loves what he does and it shows. This is his quote about himself from his Facebook page, “I live how I want, and I do what I love !” Now that’s the way to live.
Tate Simms First CD “Romantic Holiday” was released in December 2010 and is currently available from your favorite music download site. If you prefer a hard copy you can contact Tate via Facebook and he will see that you get a copy through Paypal.
The CD Feel It will be available soon and some of the tracks can be heard on WDGP right now. Tate has promised to come back when Feel It is completed to share it with our Listeners first!
Tate’s advise to youth contemplating the Music business? Educate yourself on the music and more so on the business, hone your kraft. Learn an instrument of your choice, be passionate about your music. Sounds like good advice to us and we second that.
Keep up with Tate Simms via his Facebook page and his Website.
Music can be found ReverbNation, Pure Volume, Last FM, Itunes and your favorite music download site.
Here a clip we enjoyed of Tate paying Homage to George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.

Living Black History
Jan 28, 2010 Legends, Today's Stars
Tonight, I had the pleasure of speaking with a Blues Legend. Drink Small has been making music for well over 50 years and he shows no signs of slowing down. During our conversation we played and sang for me, told jokes and shared some of his very language “Drinkism”. It was a delight speaking to him.
If you don’t know who he is, here’s part of our history: “The Blues Doctor”, who has been entertaining music lovers since the mid 1950s.
Drink Small (his real name) was born in 1933 in Bishopville (Lee County), SC. Known worldwide as “The Blues Doctor”, he plays virtuoso blues guitar, two-fisted piano, and sings in an inimitable basso profundo voice.
Drink is a recipient of the S.C. Folk Heritage Award, a member of the S.C. Hall of Fame, and has spent his life touring, recording, and playing a spectrum of Southern roots musics. He has performed at some of the nation’s top music festivals – Chicago Blues Festival (twice), New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (three times), King Biscuit Blues Festival (twice), Smithsonian-Folklife Festival, Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, Lincoln Center and Central Park concert series (NYC), and every major blues festival in the Southeast. He has been written up in myriad music magazines (downbeat, Metronome, Blues Revue, Il Blues, Juke Blues, Soul Bag, Blues News) and even made the cover of Living Blues (July/August, 1992 issue).
At the age of 76, Drink Small is at the top of his game and performing better than ever. Always creating new music, his latest opus is a tribute to President Barack Obama: “The United States Will Never Be the Same” (2009; CD single, ONLY available from Drink Small). He performs solo (acoustic or electric) and with his band. Drink Small will be a guest on Conversations on February 20, 2010.
